Getting Muddy

Had a reasonable walk today ~ apart from the enforced delays while he took photographs ~ and even managed to get properly muddy, so I was sent into the canal where fortunately there was a 6m branch that required attention.

Two good walks in Two days

After hours and hours of dropping a hint yesterday they said eventually they were taking me out for a walk, we went down to the canal, a quick swim and we carried on until we went over the motorway, then back to the towpath and into the country where I had another swim and saw a big old friendly dog wearing a raincoat... How can you swim wearing a raincoat? For some reason we turned back before I was ready, but then I saw my chance and disappeared off up to the disused railway line... they decided to come and we continued until I saw a field where there had clearly been rabbits, so I had to explore and once again they followed. Eventually we arrived at a road where I was put on the lead, fortunately no dogs or cats were around, and along PAVEMENTS to a food shop where they had something to eat and once again all I had the were the left overs. Dying of starvation we continued until I saw we were near the canal again and I was off the lead to explore. Nearly four hours later we arrived home.

Today we went into the city in my car and I was left in the back: for a a few hours by the coach station where the younger he disappeared and I have not seen him since; then even longer at a garage where he went in to look at a motorbike and she laid down in the road to take some pictures; and finally for most of the day at a food shop where he came back with two interesting bags that contained FOOOOD. After all the delays we eventually arrived at Daisy Nook where there is plenty of mud, water, trees, sunny grass, and of course interesting smells. Unfortunately I also found some noisy geese... so I had to chase them away. Again I only had leftovers and some dog chews which were too small to chew. After a reasonable walk we set off back to the car, but for some reason they took me by the water again so all my mud came off... and I think I may have become clean ...which is definitely not very good. We arrived home to find the sun was in my favourite spot... across the front door... so I just had to lie there.

I actually had a proper walk and swim today

We went to the beach today and I could just be myself....

Then just because they said I was sandy they took me to my river for another swim.. memo to self... where can I find some sand...

Today was a good day!

Interesting or important things and selective deafness

They are worried about my hearing again because I don't respond sometimes. I thought I had explained but to avoid any doubt I can hear:
  • a biscuit packet or the biscuit tin being opened when I am asleep in another room;
  • a saucepan being scraped or put on the floor when I am in the front garden;
  • the front gate opening when I am in the back garden;
  • a dog walking past our wall
  • my lead or collar being moved
  • and the dawn chorus when you are fast asleep.
These of course are interesting and important things to hear. I do not hear so well words like 'come' and 'sit' because they are generally not so interesting or important, unless we are playing the game where I run full pelt at you and swerve at the last moment, and I have previously explained the technical difficulties.

Tuesdays

I have been contemplating Tuesdays...

First it is hectic until she goes out to work very early and...

...then the younger he goes off to school....

...and then he takes me for a shorter walk than I deserve before he goes off to work.

Sometimes younger she will take me out, but generally I do not have anyone to converse with.

Tuesdays are not good

Mothering Sunday

Today is Mothering Sunday. We also have Father's Day.

That must mean the rest are Golden Retriever Days....

Dogs must be kept on a lead

She is apparently 50 or half way today so presumably is no longer a puppy. So we went for a long drive then a quick play in a river followed by a dog pub meal before going on the walk. The trouble was that once we were on 'the walk' it had signs saying dogs must be kept on a lead. Well I don't mind on pavements but it is a bit much on a disused railway with trees everywhere and smells wherever you went. There were not any sheep, lambs, goats, horses or cows around and another local dog walker explained that most people normally let them off although the sign had been there since the trail-way began. So over a mile on the lead - this was not good - before we left the trail and went down to the river where I could become a normal GR again...

Thematic Photograph 39 - Transparent

Carmi is his blog extols us this week to examine the subject 'transparent'...

It is all in the look....

....Not that as a GR I have any understanding of being transparent... but let me re-assure you that I love you... and I want to be your friend for life... (Which when translated really means... 'and would you like me to help you with the FOOD you have on your plate...')

A little too much port?

Someone had suggested that I could not take my drink...

.... it is just that I find being sociable and having polite conversation tiring so I need a little rest every now and then

Of Ducks and having to leave the water

Water is intended for GRs.

We will share it with ducks and geese sometimes, but don't expect us to come just because you are ready to go since we still have important things to do...

We will come when we are ready...

and whilst sometimes we will 'shake' when asked to it is much better to either let you share the water,
have a good roll...

or even jump into the car if the fancy takes us... because then you will tell us to get out and we just go back into the water again...

And don't forget that of course we then need FOOD

Ther're not there

Don't bother ... I've already tried and they are not there. ..

You hear dogs or other birds and animals that you could go and play with coming from inside the black box, from the grey box on the kitchen worktop, or hear and see them from the thing that is attached to the wall, but when you go round the back so that you can charge them from behind ... they have gone ... come back to the front ... and they are there again ... bark and they ignore you ... most confusing.

I have just given up ... and just watch them now like they do...

BTW 1 ...why why why am I unable to smell FOOD whenever I can clearly see FOOD that must be for ME in the grey box attached to the wall? And why do I see some people eating FOOD who do not give ME any...at all... ever...

But sometimes they give me
FOOD that I have seen go in either one of the big white boxes with a door in the kitchen, or the smaller silver box with a light on the kitchen worktop - and in that one you do smell the FOOD ?

BTW 2... why do I see some some dogs in the silver thing attached to the wall being washed brushed, pedicured, and having all sorts of things done to them ....and as for the bows... when they could just find a nice piece of mud, water or even manure for a good roll, have a run through a hedge to be beautiful and smelling wonderful.

BTW 3... I am hungry.

Two plates of chips and a bowl of soup

Why in a dog friendly pub don't dogs (I mean me me me) have all the food?

The difference between 'come' and ''food

For those of you who are not GRs you may wonder why we take no notice when you say 'come' but are there as you finish the word 'food'. The reason is simple 'come' starts as a hard word and ends softly with the result that our ears are not tuned in to start with and we miss the ending, whereas 'food' starts softly and ends hard, the way our ears are designed to receive sound: so are able respond. [In case any of you think that means 'sit' or 'siiittt' is similar it is too short a word and the hiss at the begining makes us look around for snakes so we miss the remainder.]

It is very simple really.

And when you ask us to 'come' or 'sit' when we are alseep, busy enjoying mud or having a roll...

Friends and family

I've just heard about my new cousins ... well strictly speaking my masters brother and sister in laws dog's new little puppies, then they produced what they said were pictures of me as a little puppy...

I don't believe it ~ these just can not be me
.

I can't believe I was ever a little puppy ... A little thing who could hide behind a flowerpot or sit in Amie's shoulderbag, and how could I have ever been that clean...

Thats more like it ~ me with cousin Jasper, but he is not as muddy as he should be.

Working dog at Daisy Nook

Just in case there are those who think I only relax at my gentleman's club here are videos of me helping to clear up my river after adults have thrown sticks in there:

Apologies for the quality they were mobile phone video clips

And (not at Daisy Nook) enjoying the wet sand in Cornwall which is a jolly good place for GRs providing you avoid the Hooray Henrys in Rock & Polzeath
