The difference between 'come' and ''food

For those of you who are not GRs you may wonder why we take no notice when you say 'come' but are there as you finish the word 'food'. The reason is simple 'come' starts as a hard word and ends softly with the result that our ears are not tuned in to start with and we miss the ending, whereas 'food' starts softly and ends hard, the way our ears are designed to receive sound: so are able respond. [In case any of you think that means 'sit' or 'siiittt' is similar it is too short a word and the hiss at the begining makes us look around for snakes so we miss the remainder.]

It is very simple really.

And when you ask us to 'come' or 'sit' when we are alseep, busy enjoying mud or having a roll...
